I. Is there a day of Christ and the day of the Lord?
When reading God's Word you will find that every reference to the Second Coming is always in thesingular.
(Dan.7:13; 9:27; 11:35, 40; 12:1-4, Matt.16:28; 24:3, 27-39, 48; 25:27; 26:64, Mark.13:26; 14:62, Luke.21:27, 1Cor.1:7;
15:23, 1Thes.2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23, 2Thes.2:1, 8, James 5:7-8, 2Peter.3:4, 1John.2:28, Rev.11:15; 19:11-21) Another
confirmation is the resurrection (only one) of the just (Justified / redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, which
CANNOT be separated from Christ's (only one) Second Coming) Review: The Pre-Tribulation Rapture
(Also Review: PHASE 10)
A. Where does the thought of two "comings" come from?
Some think that when the Old Testament prophets spoke of the Day of the Lordthey were prophesying of
Christ returning at the end of the Tribulation (Post Trib.), and when the New Testament writers spoke of the
Day of Christ, they are speaking of another Second Coming of Christ only to the Clouds, (before the Tribulation)
where we will meet Him in the air until the Tribulation is over then come the rest of the way to earth and
destroy the antichrist.
1. The Old Testament Prophets
a. They spoke by the inspiration of God (2Tim.3:16-17, 1Peter.1:10-12)
(1) Peter says, "the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace
that should come unto you:
(a) Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify,
when it testified. (2Peter.1:21, John.16:10-15)
(b) The "scriptures of the prophets" testify of the sufferings of Christ (1Peter.1:10-12, Acts.3:18)
(c) The "scriptures of the prophets" testify of the glory that should follow. (Acts.3:19-24,
1Peter.1:10-12, 2Cor.3:1-18)
(d) Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves (Eph.3:5, Matt.13:10-17)
(e) But unto us (The Church) they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by
them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven;
which things the angels desire to look into.
(2) They wrote about the Mystery of God (Rom.16:25-26)
(3) They did not understand the Mystery of God as we do today (Eph.3:5,
b. The New Testament writers were inspired by the Spirit of God

The Church at Thessalonica KNEW this order BEFORE Paul wrote the first letter / epistle. (1Thes.4:13-18)
2Thes.2:3-5) This is why Paul had to remind them "that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?"
However they did not search the scriptures daily whether those things were so and they were "shaken"
"troubled." (Acts.17:10-11)
II. It is one day of The Lord Jesus Christ
The apostle Paul (who was taught directly by JESUS Gal.1:11-12) writes "we beseech (intreat) you, brethren,
by the coming (singular) of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering (singular) [0] together unto him,
(1Thes.4:13-18) That ye be not soon shaken in mind, (2Cor.11:3) or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word nor
by letter (epistle [0] as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand." (2 Thes.2:1)
A. Old Testament "day of the Lord"
SOME TEACH that the Old Testament Prophets prophesied about the Second Coming they called it
the day of the Lord. (Isa.2:12; 13:6, Joel.1:15; 2:1 / Acts.2:20, Joel.2:31, Mal.4:15)
B. New Testament "day of Christ"
The New Testament writers, inspired by the same Holy Spirit (2Tim.3:16-17) spoke of the day of
the Lord Jesus Christ. (2Thes.2:1) The apostle Paul uses the day of Christ, (Phil.1:10; 2:16, 2Thes.1:1-2) the
day of Lord Jesus, (1Cor.5:5, 2Cor,1:14) the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, (1Cor.1:7, 1Thes.2:19; 3:13; 5:23,
1Thes.2:1, 2Thes.2:1) James uses the "coming of the Lord" (James 5:7-8) The name of The Lord Jesus Christ is
throughout Acts and the Epistles. (Rom.1:7; 5:1, 2Cor.1:2, Gal.1:3, Eph.1:2, Phil.1:2, Col.1:2, 1Thes.1:1, 2Thes.1:1,
1Tim.1:1, 2Tim.1:1, Titus.1:4, Philemon.1:3, Jam.1:1, 1Pet.1:3, 2Pet.1:2, 2John.1:3, Jude.1:4, Rev.22:21) The
apostle Paul, says this name was not made known in other ages (Generations / the Old Testament
Prophets) "as it is now revealed (New Testament) unto his holy
apostles and prophets by the Spirit." (Eph 3:1-5, 1Peter.1:10-17,
Matt,13:17) This is not a change, it is a greater understanding of
the same plan.
C. Jesus revealed this name
Go "ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." (Matt.28:19)
As they went they Baptized "in the name of Jesus Christ." (Acts.2:38)
In "the name of the Lord Jesus." (Acts.8:16) In "the name of the Lord"
(Acts.10:48) and "in the name of the Lord Jesus." (Acts.19:5) This was
because...
1. The name of the Father is "Lord"
God said, "I am the Lord: that is my name: [4] and my glory will I
not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." (Isa.42:8-9)
Note: There were other names of God, however the New Testament locks in
the name of the Lord.
2. The name of the Son is "Jesus"
The angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt
conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and
shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father
David."(Luke.1:30-32)
3. The name of the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) is "Christ"
Christ means "anointed" (i.e. the Messiah) Jesus became the "Christ" after "the Spirit descending from
heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him." (John 1:32-33)
4. This is the family name, The Lord Jesus Christ.
For "this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in
heaven and earth is named." (Eph.3:15)
B. Peter had revelation on the Name
On the day of Pentecost Peter said, "Let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made
that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts.2:36-37) The apostle Paul uses
the day of Christ, (Phil.1:10; 2:16, 2Thes.1:1-2) the day Lord Jesus, (1Cor.5:5, 2Cor,1:14) the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ, (1Cor.1:7, 1Thes.2:19; 3:13; 5:23, 1Thes.2:1, 2Thes.2:1) James uses the "coming of
the Lord" (James 5:7-8) The name of The Lord Jesus Christ is throughout Acts and the Epistles. (Rom.1:7;
5:1, 2Cor.1:2, Gal.1:3, Eph.1:2, Phil.1:2, Col.1:2, 1Thes.1:1, 2Thes.1:1, 1Tim.1:1, 2Tim.1:1, Titus.1:4, Phil.1:3,
Jam.1:1, 1Pet.1:3, 2Pet.1:2, 2John.1:3, Jude.1:4, Rev.22:21)
III. What about "parousia" and "erchomai"
Some see a distinction of the "day of Christ" and the "day of the Lord" because of these two Greek words
("parousia" and "erchomai") that are used to describe the Second Coming of Jesus.
A. Both Greek Words speak of the same Coming
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming ("parousia") of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering
together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by
letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand." (2Thes.2:1-2 Context "parousia") "Let no man deceive
you by any means: for that day (the coming / "parousia") shall not come, except there come a falling away
first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above
all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing
himself that he is God."(2Thes.2:3-4) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume
with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming / "parousia" Even him,
whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders." (2Thes.2:8-9)
