l. Spiritual Sacrifices
You are "lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices,
acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." (1Peter 2:5)
A. Lively(Resurrection life)
Lively- meaning ζάω záō, dzah'-o; a primary verb; to live (literally or figuratively):—life(-time), (a-)live(-ly),
quick. [Strong's Con.NT#2198] (Heb.10:19, Rom.6:1-6) Because we were Dead in sin(Eph.2:1-2, Rom.5:10-21,
1Cor.15:22)Our everyday walk is a new and living (lively) way- (Heb.10:19) This is not new in the sense
that God is starting over again and doing away with the Old Covenant / Testament. We know this because
JESUS said, He did not come to destroy the Old Covenant but to fulfill." (Complete) (Matt.5:17-19,
B. Stones-(Matt.3:9, Luke.3:7-9, Gal.3:1-29)
1. We (The Church) are the lively (spiritual) stones
2. Peter was inspired of God to interpret the natural "stones" of the first House
(a) These natural stones were used in the first House (Solomon's Temple) to foreshadow The New
Covenant / Testament Church (1Kings.6:13-18) which Jesus said He would build. (Matt.16:18,
Eph.2:20-22 / Gal.1:11-12)
(b) David gave Solomon the pattern and the building material for the Natural Temple (1Chron.28:19)
(c) Jesus gave Paul the pattern and the building material for the Spiritual Temple (Gal.1:11-12,
1Cor.3:10-15)
C. Are built up a spiritual house
"In whom (Jesus) ye (You) also are builded (built) together for a habitation (spiritual house 1Peter.2:5) of
God through the Spirit" (Eph.2:20-22, 1Peter.2:5-9)
1.The Church is a spiritual House
(a) I (Paul) long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be
established;(Rom.1:11, 1Cor.12:1-31)
(b) Which things also we (Paul) speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, (teaches) but
which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (1Cor.2:13)
(c) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him:
neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1Cor.2:14)
(d) And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes
in Christ. (1Cor.3: Heb.5:11-14)
(e) If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
(1Cor.9:11)
(f) The children of Israel (natural) "did all eat the same spiritual meat...And did all drink the same
spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (
(1Cor.10:1-4)
(g) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual
blessings in heavenly places in Christ." (Eph.1:3)
2. First the natural then the spiritual
"The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that
was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first
man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also
that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the
image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. (1Cor.15:45-49)
D. We (The Church) are a Holy Priesthood
According to the pattern (that Jesus DID NOT DESTROY but fulfilled) only the Priests can offer sacrifice.
(Matt.5:17-19, Exod.28:1-43, Num.1:47-54; 3:38-39, Lev.1:5, 11, 15; 2:2, 9, 16; 3:2, 5, 11, 16: 4:5, 7, 16) Some tried
and were rejected! (Saul, Uzziah, Jeroboam, Neh.7:63-65, Note: Church History they tried
E. Offer up spiritual sacrifices
Because we are spiritual stones and a spiritual house, (1Peter.2:5) there must be (according to the pattern)
a spiritual priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices in heavenly places in the true Tabernacle. (Heb.8:1-5; 9:1-26
1. Spiritual Sacrifices
a. The Living sacrifice of ourselves (The reality of the Burnt Offering)
b. The fruit of our lips giving thanks (The reality of the Peace Offering)
c. The gift of giving and receiving (The reality of the Meal / food Offering)
d. Faults among us (The reality of the Trespass Offering)
e. If we confess our sin (The reality of the Sin Offering)
F. There must be spiritual Altar
1. We have an Altar, Jesus(Heb.13:10)
a. Jesus is the only Altar(Lev.17:8-9, John.14;6, Acts.17:30-31)
b. This is why anyone can be saved anywhere any time.
c. The Altar is not the front of the building that the Church assembles at.
2. To have a spiritual Altar, there must be a spiritual Tabernacle / Temple / House
a. The only place for the Altar was "before the door of the Tabernacle" (Exod.40:6)
b. This Tabernacle was an "example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of
God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according
to the pattern shewed (shown) to thee in the mount. (Exod.25:9, Heb.8:5)
