Blemishes that limit the Priesthood (Page.1)
The "Lord said unto Moses...(Lev.21:1) Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God."
(Lev 21:17-18)  (Click here for details of the Tabernacle chart below)

(Click here for the significance of the "Vail")

Who was Aaron?

Aaron was the first high priest of the Levitical order. God said, "take thou unto thee Aaron thy
brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me
in the
priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons."
(Exod.28:1-2, Heb.5:1-4)

1.  Jesus came to fulfil (complete) the Law of the High Priest
     "
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, (of the high priest - Heb.3:1-2; 2:17; 4:14-15,
     5:1-5; 8:1-3
) or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you,
Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

(Matt 5:17-19, Gal.3:24, Rom.3:19-31, Acts.28:20, 23)

2.  Note: This includes the Law of Marriage for the high priest (Lev.21:10-15) and the Law of
      no blemishes. (Lev.21:16-24)

Only the High Priest "alone" could go through the Vail

"But into the second (The Most Holy Place - Heb.9:1-6) went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people." (Heb 9:7-8, Lev.16:1-2, 16) Without "blemishes!" This was "the day" of atonement!  The Feast of Tabernacles in the seventh month.

1.  Only Aaron, the High Priest

A review of Phases 2, 4, 8, 9, 11 reveal that the Church is positioned to go through the "Vail,"
as the high priest Aaron did into that final visitation of God. The Marriage of the Lamb.
(Review: The Building code for restoring the Church)  This will require the Church coming to the
     "
unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the
measure of the stature of the fullness
of Christ" our High Priest! (Eph 4:13-14)

Only the High Priest could be in the Most Holy Place. Only those that allow themselves to
perfected (matured) by the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher
(Eph.4:11-16)

will qualify. "Watch and pray" (1Thes.5:6) The truths of the "Vail" will bring a division in the
Church because some will reject them, and others will accept and receive them.
     (Note:
Luke.12:51-53, John.7:43; 9:16; 10:19, Matt.10:34)

        .

2.  Aaron could have no blemishes
"No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings
of the Lord made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy. Only he shall not go
     in
unto the Vail, (on the day of Atonement) nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a
     blemish
; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the Lord do sanctify them
." (Lev 21:21-24)
     a.  The New Testament reality

When the Church comes to the "
unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ," our High
          Priest
."
(Eph 4:13-14, Heb.3:1, 1John.3:2) there will be no blemish. (Eph.5:21-33)

b.  There will be no wrinkles      More notes to come
     c.  There will be no spots, or "any such thing"      More notes to come
     d.  Some say, "that will never happen until we get to heaven!"
The answer to this is, "this is a great mystery" (Eph.5:32) which is finished before
           Jesus returns!
(Rev.10:7, Acts.3:19-21)

(Click here for full explanation of chart below)
                       .

Note: Remember, the "twinkling of an eye" (1Cor.15:51-52) does not remove the
blemishes, spots, wrinkles or any such thing. This only changes our mortal, into immortality.

What are the blemishes that would restrict Aaron

"For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous, Or a man that is broken footed, or broken handed, Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken." (Lev 21:18-21) These "blemishes" would prevent Aaron, and his seed, to moving on through the "Vail."

A blind man, or that hath a blemish in his eye (Lev.21:18)

"H
e that lacketh  these things (or fails to add faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, charity) is blind and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins." (2Peter.1:9-10) Peter was writing to "to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" (2 Peter.1:1) These were Christians(2Cor.5:17-21) These were "saints" that were being "perfected" to be like Jesus, (Eph.4:11-16) our High Priest. (The fulfillment of Aaron
and his seed - Heb.3:1, Matt.5:17-19Under the New Covenant (Testament) the pattern has not changed,  " it is established! (Rom.3:31) However because of Jesus, the reality (fulfillment) of this "blemish" can be removed by the "washing of  water by the Word." (Eph.5:26)

God has not changed His mind1 (Mal.3:6, James.1:17, v.8, Heb.13:8) The reality of these "blemishes" is present in the Church today.

1.
We have spiritual eyes that can become dim and eventually blind.

The "eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of
his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints." (
Eph 1:18-19)
     a.  Our "spiritual eyes" is our understanding in the Word of God. (Eph.
4:18, Matt.13:16,
          Luke.24:16, 25-36)

     b.  This is not understanding in the things of this world. (1Cor.1-2:14, Phil.3:1-8)

2.
The Laodicean Church (Rev.3:14-22)

They said, that they "had need of nothing," including Jesus who they had shut out with
their goods and riches. Jesus told them that they were "wretched...miserable...poor...
      and blind and naked.
(Rev.3:17) Whenever man's wisdom (1Cor.1:20-29; 2:1-14)

becomes preeminent, Jesus is always shut out of the Church.

3.  Israel was blinded because of their rejection of God's purpose.
(Rom.11:25, 2Cor.3:14,
     Matt.13:10-17)

4.   Note: Isaac (Gen.27:1-29)
If Isaac's eyes were not "dim," he would not have been
deceived by Jacob. We have five spiritual senses. There is seeing, (Eph.1:18) hearing,
      (Heb.5:11-14) smelling, (Gen.8:21, Lev.26:31, Amos.5:21, Phil.4:18, Eph.5:1-2, 2Cor.2:14,
      1Cor.12:16-17)
 feeling, (Acts.17:27) tasting.
(Col.2:21, Heb.6:4-5, 1Peter.2:3)

He that is "a lame man" (Lev.21:18)

A high priest, having a limb so disabled as to impair freedom of movement, would make him weak or ineffective in his ministry in the Tabernacle. Allowances would have to be made all the time  to accommodate his disability. The high priest was to minister unto the Lord, (Exod.28:1, 3, 4)  representing the people, (Exod.28:15-29) not to be waited on. Jesus, our High Priest "
came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." (Matt 20:28-29) Those that desire to measure up to the "stature of the fullness of Christ," (Eph.4:13) will do the same.

Note: Even in the offerings being "lame" was refused. If "there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord thy God." (Deut 15:21-22) This was robbing God. (Mal.3:8, Note: Chapter 1, verses 6-10)

1.  The Hebrews had a "lame" spiritual walk.
The Hebrews (approx. 50 yrs. after Pentecost) still needed the milk of the Word, and still
needed to be taught the first principals of the doctrine of Christ. (Heb.5:11-14) Their spiritual
walk was "lame." They were weak and ineffective (disabled) and limited in their walk before
     the Lord.

2.  Our spiritual walk, is our lifestyle
     Paul says, "
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the
     vocation wherewith ye are called."
(Eph.4:1, Rom.6:4; 8:1-4: 13:3, 1Cor.3:3; 7:17,
     2Cor.5:7; 6:16, Eph.4:17 Heb.12:23)

3.  The priest had to have clean hands and clean feet.
     "
Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou
shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put water
     therein.
For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat: When they
go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or
when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the Lord:
So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not." (Ex 30:18-22)
As a "royal priesthood" we also should allow the "water of the Word" washing us.
(1Peter.2:5-9, Eph.5:26-27) Note: The Greek word for "washing" is a bath, Laver. The
apostle and "wise master builder" (1Cor.3:10) was reading the blueprint of the Tabernacle
and instructing how to build the Church. (Gal.1:11-12, Matt.16:18, Acts.2:42)

4.
The pattern / blueprint reveals the priest was walking or standing all the time, there
was no place to sit down. (Exod.25:8-Exod.40) There legs needed to be strong!

Note: We "rob God" (Mal.1:8; 3:8) when we offer (Rom.12:1-2) ourselves as a "lame"
(Lev.22:21-23) "living sacrifice" (Rom.12:1-2 - the fulfillment of the burnt offering)

(Click here for the significance of the "Vail" dividing and God's purpose for His Church)

5.  The washing of water by the Word can remove a "lame" blemish.

"Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing (i.e. bath or laver.2) of water by the word." (Eph 5:25-26) As a "royal priesthood"

(1Peter.2:5-9, Rev.1:6: 5:10) today, we can wash at  the true laver, in the true Tabernacle
(Heb.8:1-5; 9:1-26) and remove the blemish of being lame.

He that hath a flat nose

"For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose..." (Lev.21:18)
"Discernment."

1.  It was the "Sweet savour" that caused God to discern
The first mention of a "sweet smelling savor" is when Noah "builded an altar unto the Lord; and
the "Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the
ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither
will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done." (Gen 8:20-22)

a.  All five Offerings required the "Sweet Savour"

The "priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt (Sin, Trespass, Meal, Peace) sacrifice,
an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the Lord." (Lev 1:9; 2:9; 3:5; 4:31)
     b.  God rejected the House of Israel's false sweet "smelling odors." (Amos.5:21) They had
created their own offerings under Jeroboam. (1Kings.11:6-13, 26-40; 12:1-33)

God said, "I will not smell in your solemn assemblies." Discernment!

2.  There is "smelling" in the body of Christ.
For "as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being
many, are one body: so also is Christ."
(1 Cor 12:12-13) "
If the whole body were an eye,
where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? (1 Cor 12:17-18)

a.  Christ is the reality of the "sweet smelling savor."
          "
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also
hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God
          for a sweetsmelling savour."
(Eph 5:1-3, 2Cor.2:14-16)
     b. The apostle Peter writes, "
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an
holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ .

          (1Peter.2:5-6) It is
Jesus being preeminent in our offering, gives up a sweet smelling
savour that is discerned and excepted by God the Father. (John.14:6) Those that reject
Christ are like those that followed king Jeroboam. (1Kings.12:25-30, 2Kings.17:22)
God will not smell and except your "
philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men,
after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
(Col 2:8-9) Outside of Christ our
offering is as "filthy rags," (Isa.64:6) and stinks to high heaven.

1.  Remember: The Law exposes sin, (Rom.3:20; 7:7-14) it does not take away sin. (Heb.10:1-10) God's grace, through Jesus Christ (John.1:17, Eph.2:1-8) forgives the sin that the law exposes. Both are needed because "in the mouth of two (Old and New Testaments) or three witnesses every word may be established."
